Tension broke out in Butwal on Thursday after the demonstrators hit the streets to protest against the constitution amendment bill that proposes to separate Tarai and hill districts in province number 5.

The demonstrators and security personnel hurled stones at each other turning the area into a virtual battleground. Tension escalated after youths carrying national flags started vandalising Maoist's Sahid Smarak and statue along the hospital line today to protest the amendment bill.

The irate youths broke a wall defying the police security. They also pelted stones on security personnel that triggered police to resort to using force. Hundreds of demonstrators were seen on the streets.

The CPN-UML has decided to obstruct the Parliament meeting and intensify street protests against the constitution amendment bill registered in the Parliament yesterday.A meeting of UML Parliamentary Party held at Singha Durbar today took a decision to this effect. The meeting concluded that the bill tabled in the Parliament was against the country’s interests and also against the will of the people residing in the carved out provinces.
