Fugitive singer Prakash Ojha nabbed, sent behind bars for 10 years


The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on Friday arrested popular Nepali singer Prakash, who was handed 10-year sentence on charges of molesting minor girls and uploading videos on websites, from Shankhamul, Kathmandu.

The 43-year-old comedy singer, who was once famed for TV series Tito Satya, was arrested based on the court order and sent to Sundhara-based central jail, the CIB said.

Ojha, who was sentenced 10 years in prison by the court, was on the run. A team of Central Investigation Bureau captured Ojha from Sankhamul, Kathmandu.

Revoking the decision of Biratnagar Appellate Court, the Supreme Court convicted Ojha on two counts of human trafficking and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

CIB informed that Ojha was presented before Kathmandu District Court today and as per the court’s order, he has been sent to Central Prison in Sundhara to serve the term.

The once famous singer is a native of Itahari in Sunsari district and was on the run since the court issued the verdict.

The court pronounced the verdict on the charge of sexually abusing three minor girls and coercing them to have sexual relations for two years. He was also accused of repeatedly exploiting them by threatening to publicise their indecent photos and videos.
