Awesome Speech by Nepali Girl Jolly Amatya at UN Youth Assembly


Nepali girl Jolly Amatya, the Chairman of Youth Assembly of United Nations (UN), gave an applauding speech at the winter session of UN at UN Headquarters in New York on February 1.

She addressed the representatives from different countries of the word who had gathered for the assembly that is held twice a year. The main theme of 19th session was mutual dependence for sustainable development.

Amatya has been successful to become the youngest and first Nepali to become the Chairman of the UN Youth Assembly. She addressed the winter session of the assembly for the second time representing the youths around the globe.

Amatya, a Nepali youth from Lalitpur, who has been currently living in Washington DC, was appointed as the Chairman of the Youth Assembly on August last year. As the Chairman of the Youth Assembly, Jolly will lead over 1,000 participants from 97 countries.  She had been representing the Youth Assembly since 2012. She was elected as the co-chair of the Youth Assembly in 2015

On February 1-3, the 2017 Youth Assembly at the United Nations brought together approximately 1,000 young leaders and professionals from around the world, UN officials and diplomats, and representatives from intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations to tackle young people’s role in realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Under the theme “Realizing the 2030 Agenda: Youth in Action”, the conference aims to explore multifaceted global issues such as poverty, education, and sustainable consumption and production, with an emphasis on the integrated nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference also brings to the fore contemporary discussions on youth’s role in policy-making, present-day humanitarian crises, and their impacts on global development.
