Loading the freshly released iOS 10.3 could be the reason why you got some more space in your device. In addition to the ability to now find lost AirPods through the Find My iPhone app, iOS 10.3 brings along a new file system for iOS devices known as the Apple File System, making it more of an overhaul than it seems to be.
iOS 10.3 makes my iPhone feel a tiny bit newer.— John Christensen (@MeJohnC) March 28, 2017
Got more storage and everything is just a bit quicker. Great update.
The new Apple File System (APFS) replaces the 19-year-old HFS+ system, which was geriatric in terms of tech years.
On iOS 10.2 I had 215GB and now on iOS 10.3 with APFS I have 220GB of free storage! That's amazing!!!!!!— Jonny (@jonnymmxvi) March 28, 2017
It also adds a level of encryption to the iPhone to keep your data more secure as well as reportedly hundreds of other security tweaks.
